You know its funny because I thought we started this sport because of the love we have for horses and then I look at us and what we have become.

I mean we are still those little girls who love these majestic creatures but some of us have changed into these girls who are almost obsessed with all the materialistic things that can be produced off of this sport. Sometimes I think people believe that the fancy coats, boots and helmets will help them win and put the 1st place rosette on their horses polished Italian leather bridles when in reality it does none of that.

I don’t believe money can buy talent because I think talent is something you have to work hard for or something you can be born with (regardless, you will still have to work hard).

It feels nice to look good in our sport, looking polished and clean is taking pride in yourself and your horse but I promise you the Parlantis and Pikeur breeches won’t win you first place. Constant hard work, training and possibly the luck of having talent will get you to the top and that is always something to be proud of.

So to the lucky girls out there who can have the nicer things in life, I’m happy for you but this does not phase me, nor does it make you a better rider or person then me.

Eventful Sunday shenanigans

Warning, long ass story. But if you like stories about people falling off, continue if you don’t give a shit..continue.

So today I and two other girls from my barn were going over to another barn to school our horses with our coach. So we decided to trail ride over because its not that far, plus you don’t have to pay for trailering. Okay so this was Bugs first trail (I believe) since he’s been here and the trail ride went really well! No spooks at cars, bikers and people, this is good b/c he was quite spooky in the outdoor ring when he first got here. So we get to this wide stretch of trail with fields on each side and its a really nice place to ride and when people are not on it we like to canter along there. Anywaysss, So we’re walking along there and at the end of the trail there are these massive fat pigs that lie in mud for hrs and barely move in their pig pen and its right along the trail so we had to pass them. Some horses get scared going past them, some are fine. My friends mare has gone past them several times, like the time I had my last trail with Taz and she’s perfectly fine, The other horse is a bit spooky on the trails and gets stressed easily but we weren’t sure if he would be okay with the pigs or not so the plan was to hop off if he wasn’t, he was doing really well up til then too. And then I was on bug and even though we couldn’t directly see them, he knew they were there and I’m pretty sure he could smell them. So he started to get a little looky and unsure of himself and same with Ziggy (the mare) and all the horses just stop and won’t go forward and this is when I’m thinking okay we will get off instead and walk past them. NOPE.

Ziggy looses her shit and fucking books it back down the trail towards the barn (smart mare knows the way) with Elicia still on her and as Ziggy took off Bug followed immediately and Dejah too. But holy shit, for a pony Bug can run fast. Okay so at this point we are all galloping, like full on gallop down the stretch of trail and I’m like trying to shorten my reins and do a one rein halt or something to get the pony to stop but he was so strong and when I thought he was going fast he kicked it up a notch and I was NOT willing to ride that on the road all the way to the barn. I yelled “whoa” several times, I probably sounded like I was a dying whale who was crying hahaha, eyah so that didn’t help. So somehow I managed to get the little bugger (no pun intended) onto the grass near the end of the stretch of trail b/c I was like I need to slow this pony down or stop otherwise I’m fucked. So I get on the grass and it slows him down a bit and that is where I went from the saddle to the ground. Can’t tell you how, I’m pretty sure I just lost my balance on him and fell off. I kind of faced planted into the grass and hit my head and the pony just ran after Ziggy and Elicia. Erin and Dejah are behind this whole time and after I fell she managed to get D to stop and she got off and I got up and we’re like..”holy shit”…”did that just happen?” Uhmm…Erin:” Holy shit that pony can run fast!” Lol, I call my coach we tell her what happened etc and then we walked all the way home, which isn’t to far but far enough to walk after you’ve fallen off and hit your head. Meanwhile… Bug was galloping down the Rd and Elicia (holding on for dear life) and Ziggy galloped after them..well, Ziggy did, Elicia was just along for the ride ha ha. Bug stopped at the end of the road that connects the the Rd my barn is on and started eating grass, Ziggy bless her soal stopped galloping and Elicia got off and walked them back home.

We get back to the barn finally and figure everything out and deal with the Bug and Ziggy who is stiff as a board, poor baby. Bugs back leg was swollen so we cold hosed the ponies, gave them some drugs and stuff and then poulticed their legs and then wrapped. Finally I got home (probably shouldn’t have driven myself) and now I’m here telling you guys about my adventure. But I hit my head so I’m taking it easy right now because I didn’t feel to good and I’m still not great. Suppose to go out to the barn to repeat everything we did up there^ tonight but I don’t know if I can make it out so my coach who’s going to be out there anyways might just do all of that which makes me feel awful but I’m not feeling great and don’t have anyone to drive me out there.

Wow if you read all of that I commend you. Yeah so..hopefully the horses are okay, just stiff and nothing worse, even though it was an accident I still feel awful that they are stiff and swollen but shit happens. It could have been worse, I could have gotten really hurt from falling which is why I aimed for the grass because I didn’t trust that I would stay on galloping on the Rd and I do not, at all want to fall on the pavement at high amounts of speed. Um, yeah just glad no one else got hurt and glad the Rds they galloped down were quiets ones and nothing terrible happened.

I think that’s all….um if you want to see how dirty my boots got I posted a photo on my instagram: neenclay

The grass wasn’t like super solid since we have been getting some rain here but it wasn’t mushy but I did get quite dirty and I wish I could show you exactly what my breeches look right now and my black jacket.

Ok, I’m going to stop rambling. That was my Sunday, how was yours?
